My Friends!

Life is an adventure!
[info]disleanne
It's true, it is.
Got out of school today and am ready for Thanksgiving break!!
Had some crazyness going on these past few weeks. Attended Harry Potter day again this year, which was bundles of fun. Plus, that was the day they were filming some stuff for the Disneyland/ WDW Christmas special!! So, that was exciting to see! Sad thing happened that day though... I lost my super awesome camera. :(

Gosh, I haven't even owned it for a full year yet!! Stupid me set it down on a table with everybodys bags...got distracted...came back...it was gone.
*sigh*
I'm still checking at lost and found at Disneyland, and hoping they'll find it and mail it back. It's been about 2 weeks now, and I still have nothing. :( Meh...
Aside from that, life's been pretty exciting!
Just this last Saturday, I FINALLY got to see "Where the Wild Things Are". I enjoyed it, I liked the more serious take on it. And the soundtrack...I really enjoyed that.
I've been cleaning up my room a lot recently. Back when I took my trip to WDW, I gave away my bed. So...now I have to do something with the labyrinth that was previously known as "under-the-bed". I still have tons to clean...but it looks nicer than it did. :)
While I was cleaning, i found my Sims 3 disc! So...i've been playing that for pretty much all week...for hours...countless...sleepless...hours....
My friend Jenny also somehow got me to be unlazy and get my friend code for Brawl so we could play together. Now I need to get more friend codes...cause random people can be annoying. :p Especially when they take their gaming waaay too seriously.
Some other stuff that happened...I had my senior interviews today at school, which went well I think. Had a doctor's appointment after school, and I have to find a new doctor soonish, since i'll be turning 18 soon. Gah...i'm growing up. :( Plus, I need to find time to go down to the DMV.
Went on a thrift store adventure the other day. The one I went to is closing down soon, so everything is 50% off. Rachel told me they had some NES games, so I knew I had to go. I bought 3 NES games (Castlevania, Excitebike, and Little Nemo: Dream Master) and 2 VHS tapes (Merlin and Muppet Babies). WOOT!
Sooooo...upcoming events!!
Tomorrow, Saturday, the 21st, i'll be waking up nice n' early for the first day of Thanksgiving Break. How will I be spending it? Classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles marathon (using my VHS tapes, lol) leading up to the new movie special "TMNT Forever", which will be a huge crossover between the new turtles, classic turtles, and original comic turtles. It's gonna be freakin' epic.

While i'm not a fan of the new turtles, i'm still reaaaally looking forward to seeing this. It'll be so nice to wake up on a Saturday morning for cartoons again. :) Maybe if I have any extra time before the movie starts, i'll play my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES game...as frusturating as it is, I love it.
After the movie ends, i'll be heading down to Fullerton with Rachel to see a friend perform in "BENT". More mature than the other plays we've seen, but it's no big deal to us...or, me at least. :p
After the show, we'll be heading over to Hollywood to see "A Christmas Carol" at El Capitan. I'm really excited to see this film, from what i've seen and heard, it looks so amazing...
Sunday is Disneyland like always, as well as Wednesday, but that's for a 1 year anniversary of one of the best Disneyland trips EVER. Man, if I had a time machine, I would go back to that date and repeat that day all over again...it was that amazing.
The fun doesn't end there! The day after, Thursday, is Thanksgiving Day! How will I be spending it, you ask? Well, first i'll be watching Thanksgiving specials, and then sometime in the afternoon, head down to Walt Disney Studios and see a sreening of 'The Princess and the Frog"!!! I CAN'T WAAAIIIIITTTTT....
Seriously. I'm gonna esplode.
I wish I had my good camera...then I could take good pictures...my current one that i'm using is old and takes FAIL pictures at night. :/ Hopefully it won't fail me this time...

So, those are all the exciting plans I have so far! I'm sure more amazing things will happen (and i probably left stuff out, who knows), but guys...this week is gonna be one of the most epic weeks of my life....

WOOHOO!!!!

You know how people will stick plastic cups into a chain-link fence to make words and patterns? Kit and I were driving along the H1, and in the fence on the highway embankment someone had written:

Halloween 2009 - Part 2
[info]bri_chan
Part 2 of our Halloween adventures, our trip to D*sney World! This time around I went with Kat and Jen from October 7 to the 12.

The trip started on the night of October 6. We got to LAX around 8:30pm and our flight left at 10pm. This was my first red-eye flight and I was not quite happy with it. I thought that maybe I would be tired enough to sleep but I had no idea just how HARD it would be to sleep on a plane. Not to mention that due to budget cuts the plane had no pillows to sleep on. ARGH. Thankfully it was a non-stop flight and we got into Florida about 6am.

This was also the first time I experienced REAL Florida weather. The first time I had gone in February it was 30-40 degrees the entire trip, pretty damn cold for a SoCal girl. Now we were in 90-100 degree weather, plus humidity. I stepped outside and my first thought was "Ohhhhh, this is what it's like? Shit." So we got to our hotel at about 7am and the three of us agreed to take a nap. We slept in until 10 then headed off to Hollywoos Studios for our first day of playing.

Anybody up for a little celebration?
[info]zippitydodah27 wrote in [info]curiousinsane

This is the official celebratory countdown post for NEW WCMI SEGMENTS! That's right, this isn't a maybe or yet another 'we're getting around to it' post. We are DOING THIS THING. Expect to see a full update within 1-2 days! The earliest possible time would be around late afternoon or evening tomorrow depending on our work schedules and the like. Both Lily and Brianna drew art for this segment while my backup writer Valadilenne assisted by co-writing the opener and providing inspiration for other scenes. An artistic round-robin, if you will. :) Once in a while all four of us will get involved on a single segment as we did for this one.

I highly suggest that all readers take a little time to re-read the comic from start to finish, or (if you haven't enough time) at least from the last segment of the spring dance. This will connect the segments properly in your mind and preserve the story's flow after our long, long hiatus.

Thanks to everyone for being patient with us over the last year while we attended to some important aspects of our personal lives. That said, let's CELEBRATE!

(regarding the video: do take note of the hatter/alice swing dancing together at 4:20. Shades of the spring dance, anyone?)

Disneyland Paris during the Christmas season
[info]hildekitten wrote in [info]alldisneyphotos
Last Wednesday I went to Disneyland Paris with my friends Sam and Niels for the Christmas season.
I took a whole bunch of photos of the decorations, characters and some videos too (of all the floats in the Fantillusion lights parade amongst others).

My trip report with photos and videos is here for those who would like to read and see it :)

The birth, life and death of a cheesecake.
[info]zippitydodah27
I went to work in the kitchen between 8 and 9 am yesterday morning. My goal: a custard style apple-gingersnap cheesecake for a potluck at 7 :30 that evening. Ingredients as follows: 28 oz of cream cheese, 1/4 cup heavy cream, 1 cup sour cream, two whole eggs, three egg yolks, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 5 oz sweetened condensed milk, gingersnap cookies, 2 tablespoons sweet cream butter, one whole vanilla bean (split and scraped into the heavy cream before blending began.) To save myself some time I had baked the crust and sliced/peeled the apples the night before. it's a good thing I did as otherwise I wouldn't have finished this in time.

2 pm. The cheesecake has left the oven after 2 1/2 hours of baking and now sits on the counter to cool. Five hours to showtime. While it cooled I baked grannysmith apples with butter, brown sugar and fresh ground cinnamon/nutmeg and prepared the crushed gingersnap crumb topping. Once the cake was room temp I stuffed it into the fridge to set.

6 pm. I spooned the baked apple slices onto the cheesecake, added the brown sugar glaze and used a small baking torch to caramelize said glaze. The gingersnap crumble was then layered atop the apples. Cake went back into fridge to chill.

6:30 pm. i whipped the hell out of some heavy cream with sugar until it formed a firm peak and thus became 'real' whipped cream.

6:45 pm. The cake was yanked from the fridge. I piped a puffle of the whipped cream in the center and put the remaining cream into a tupperware container to bring with me. Just in case, y'know, someone wanted extra on their slices.

7 pm. I grated a little fresh cinnamon over the whipped cream and put the remaining half of the cinnamon stick on the cake for the sake of visual representation.

7:05 pm. THE CAKE IS DONE. LET US GAZE UPON IT.

So off we went to the potluck! I placed the cheesecake on the dessert table where about a dozen other desserts waited. I uncovered the cake (which got some ooh's and ahh's which of course made me happy) and walked away.

15 minutes later I passed the dessert table while gathering my own meal. The cake now looked like this.

I had pre-sliced the cheesecake at home to keep things neat for everyone - custard cheesecakes need to be cut a particular way and I knew the proper knife would not be available at the potluck. Weeeeell apparently the potluck attendees couldn't be bothered with my neat slices, as you can see here. They simply prodcured a large serving spoon and scooped big chunks out of the cake as if it was a block of ice cream.

Ten more minutes passed. At this point it no longer resembled a cake.

Three minutes after that last photo the cake was gone. The whole. damn. thing. Unless you count some smeary bits and pieces, anyway.

Someone shortly came by and scraped up those smeary residue pieces, too. They cleaned the platter...I think someone may have even eaten the decorative cinnamon stick, lol! It took me six hours (not counting baking and cooling time) to make this monstrosity and it took them 28 minutes to eat it. I never got to taste it myself...but that's okay, I was smitten with the cookies and had my fill of those. :p

At the risk of being overly cocky my cheesecake was the only dessert that was completely eaten. It gave me warm fuzzies to see everyone enjoying the effort I'd put into it. =) In the last photo you can see that the banana cream pie, pecan pie and brownies hadn't even been cut into yet. This cheesecake was an experiment since I had recently tweaked my basic batter recipe a little...I suppose this means I should make those tweaks permanent.

So ends the life of a custard style apple-gingersnap cheesecake.

Oh, and the chocolate drop cookies in the upper right corner of the photo were the shiznit.

The Neverland Project
[info]bri_chan
So about a month ago, I got the idea to combine photos of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell at D*sneyland in Photoshop, since it seemed like a fun project. I pitched this idea to them and the agreed to help me out. I started out making a list of ideas and got to the park early one morning to meet with Peter. We took a ton of photos, and he even threw some ideas out to me.

About a week later I put all the photos on my phone, met up with Tinkerbell, and showed them to her so she could see how she was supposed to act out. Since it's MUCH harder to do a photoshoot with Tink when there's a constant line waiting for her, we didn't take a whole lotta photos onstage. But we ended up getting through them all and I spent most of October doing these for fun.

Comic-Con 2009 - Enchanted
[info]bri_chan
So my big "project" this past summer was getting a Giselle dress made. The funniest thing is that I LOVE Giselle's pink Mucha gown that she wears in the beginning animated portion of the film, but I really hate the color pink. I guess I just love the design of the dress so much, I was able to overlook the color. XD

I hunted down all the fabric myself in just one trip to the LA garment district. My seamstress did an amazing job of putting it together, I love how it turned out. I was able to find an awesome wig piece from Granada Wigs in San Diego. Since Dan already had an Edward costume made from the previous year, I begged him to dress up with me. XD

I've been dreaming of a true love's kiss )

Mwahahaha. So that concludes all my Comic-Con photos from this year. As for what we're doing next year, I have no idea! I guess we'll see when it gets closer to next year's con.
